Pet Boarding Program for Homeless Families

So many families in the country have pets and those pets are a part of the household. Pets are a part of the family and giving up pets because of homelessness can make a situation that is already overwhelming, even more of an emotional turmoil. We know our families are going through one of the hardest times of their lives and giving up a family member is the last thing we want to ask of our families. Families want to keep their animals but are just facing unforeseen circumstances that prevent them from doing so.

That is why we partnered with a local humane society and boarding facilities to house homeless families' pets until they are able to get back on their feet. Families can also help volunteer at the facilities to spend time with their pets. Children may also volunteer but if they are under 16 years of age a parent or guardian is required to volunteer alongside them. Families with dogs who decide to volunteer can help feed them, take them for walks, play with them, and make enrichment. Families with cats who decide to volunteer can help change their litter boxes, give food and play with them as well.

For families that are unable to volunteer they can still visit them during the facility's business hours. We have shelters accepting all dog breeds and sizes and cats as well! Our partnered facilities take exceptional care of every animal and families can gain a sense of tranquility knowing their animal is safe and will one day be returned to them. The facilities that we partner with are the Toledo Humane Society, All Paws In Boarding Facility, Paws and Whiskers Boarding, and Woofs and Meows Boarding. Currently this program is only available to our families at the shelter. But as we expand our services, we hope to expand this program as well to help other families in the community experiencing the same thing.
